5 Spring Break Road Trip Tips

It is no secret that one of the busiest times for travel is over Spring Break. With college aged students taking trips with their friends and families traveling with their young children, you’ll likely find it very difficult to find affordable costs for flights and hotels. But if you’re still eager to visit a new destination, why not a road trip? This article will offer 5 Spring Break Road Trip Tips to ensure a fun and memorable journey.

1. Never Overestimate Your Driving Skills

The adrenaline rush of going on a road trip with friends could quickly turn into a nightmare if you aren’t careful! Whether this is your first or tenth spring break road trip, you must never overestimate your driving skills. This is even more important if you are taking a road trip through a new route for the first time. Always maintain your speed and don’t drive rashly or under the influence. If you start to feel sleepy at any given time, move your vehicle to the side of the road, and relax. If you still don’t feel refreshed, rest at a hotel before continuing again.

2. Look Into Weather Conditions

Surprisingly, not everyone is eager to head down to the Florida sunshine for spring break. Instead, some would rather travel to destination in the northern United States to snowboard and/or ski. Because of this, you’ll want to make sure you take road conditions into account when planning your trip. Certain states are known to have road closures due to severe winter storms, so always make sure you have a contingency plan to guarantee your trip can continue with minimal disruption.

3. Check Updated COVID-19 Restrictions

The worst of the pandemic seems to be over. We’ve got our vaccination, our boosters, and things are looking better. However, that does not necessarily mean that you can avoid wearing masks or stop using hand sanitizers. There is still no proper cure for the virus, and the vaccine is intended primarily to improve your immunity and resistance. While many places have recently loosened their Covid-19 restrictions, but what exact restrictions remain in effect continues to vary immensely from place to place.

Because of this, spending some time looking into what guidelines or requirements are currently in place for anywhere you’re traveling through, staying, or exploring is a good way to make sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible.

4. Pre-purchase Your Travel Snacks

Snacks are an essential part to any road trip. When I travel, I really just get my favorite snacks, making sure I get something in each of my “travel food groups”. Something sweet, something salty and something high in protein. Stopping for a meal sometimes only happens once a day. And, buying gas station snacks are expensive and can limit your options.

5. Road Trip Playlist

While it’s great to listen to the sound of birds and shuffling for snacks in the car, a playlist can really help tie a trip together. It can either make a few hours feel like a few minutes or a few days. Music can drastically make things go by a lot faster. Think about your day to day life. Whether you’re in a grocery store, gym, or restaurant, there is music playing in the background. Plus, no one wants to play DJ Police while on a road trip.

*Pro tip

Make sure you have the playlist downloaded to your phone for those out of cell service areas.
